The Company
Nanaimo Shipyard Ltd. is situated in
Nanaimo on the east coast of Vancouver Island
and has been in the same location in Newcastle
Channel since the 1930s and is a full service shipyard with a marine
chandlery. The company is mainly engaged in refits, conversions and
repairs to all kinds of vessels. There is over 10,000 square feet of
covered area. There are three marine railways with the largest being
able to handle vessels up to 1,000 tons and approximately 200 feet
in length. For larger ships, up to 100,000 dwt and 356 meter in length
Nanaimo Shipyard Ltd uses the Esquimalt Graving Dock which is owned
by Public Works and Government Services Canada. The company also carries
out dockside work at the Canadian Navy's Fleet Maintenance Facility
(FMF Cape Breton) in Victoria and has dockside facilities located within
that facility. The company mainly carries out refit and maintenance
work on DND, Coast Guard and BC Ferry Corporation Vessels. It also
carries out work on deep-sea cargo vessels, fishing vessels, tug and
barge fleets, yachts, fish farming service vessels, and other coastal
vessels.
